Die australische, europäische und internationale Druguser Community nimmt mit großer Trauer und Fassungslosigkeit den Tod seiner Aktivistin Jude Byrne zur Kenntnis. Jude hat über viele Jahre in einer Leitungsposition AIVL (The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League) zu einer der bedeutendsten Druguser Organisationen weltweit entwickelt. Über viele Jahre hat Jude im Board von INPUD (International Network of people who use drugs) dazu beigetragen, die internationale Druguser Bewegung unter einem Dach zu vereinen.
Als Drogen gebrauchende Frau, Mutter und Großmutter hat Jude über die letzten 25 Jahre eine entscheidende Bedeutung für eine veränderte Sichtweise und die gleichberechtigte Teilhabe von Frauen in der Drogenselbsthilfe, aber auch in der Wissenschaft und Drogenhilfe gehabt. Jude hat sich mit all ihrer Energie und ihrem Wissen gegen die Kriminalisierung Drogen gebrauchender Menschen gewendet.
Jude ist für ihre Arbeit vielfach ausgezeichnet worden. Sie war eine liebevolle aber auch kämpferische Frau, die ihrer Familie aber auch unserer weltweiten Bewegung fehlen wird. Der JES Bundesverband verneigt sich in Trauer und drückt den Angehörigen und Freund*innen von Jude sein Beileid aus.
The Australian european and international drug user community notes with great sadness and bewilderment the death of its activist Jude Byrne. Jude spent many years in a leadership position developing AIVL (The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League) into one of the most significant drug user organizations in the world. For many years Jude served on the Board of INPUD (International Network of people who use drugs) helping to unite the international drug user movement under one umbrella.
As a drug-using woman, mother and grandmother, Jude has been important over the past 25 years in changing perceptions and ensuring equal participation of women in drug self-help, as well as in science and drug service organisations. Jude has used all her energy and knowledge to fight against the criminalization of people who use drugs.

eived many awards for her work. She was a loving but also combative woman who will be missed by her family but also by our worldwide movement. The JES Federal Association bows in mourning and expresses its condolences to the relatives and friends of Jude.
